With the beginning of training camp just over a week away, the Knicks have not only filled the final spots on the roster but created competition for those final spots. In the last two days, they signed a trio of veterans; Malcolm Brogdon is the latest, joining Landry Shamet and Garrison Mathews, according to a league source on Friday.

Brogdon and Shamet agreed to non-guaranteed veteran minimum deals. Mathews will come to camp on an Exhibit 10 contract.

The three players could be competing for one roster spot because the Knicks are hard-capped and have only $3.7 million available below the second apron. They could decide to clean out salary space if they decide they want to keep more than one of the players.

With a new head coach in Mike Brown, how he values the roster holdovers as well as the newcomers could provide the answer to that.

Shamet was a valuable part of last season’s bench as a backup wing, appearing in 50 regular-season games and 11 postseason games after battling back from a dislocated shoulder.

Brogdon has had a long and productive career, being named NBA Rookie of the Year in 2016-17 and Sixth Man of the Year in 2022-23 with Boston. He averaged 12.7 points and 4.1 assists per game in 24 games for Washington last season.

Mathews is a career 38.2% shooter from three-point range, including 39.0% last season with Atlanta.
