Guard Cruz Davis, who topped the Hofstra men's basketball team in scoring while leading the Pride into the NCAA Tournament, is transferring to Texas Tech, a source confirmed to Newsday.

The CAA Player of the Year, who has  one year of eligibility remaining, entered the transfer portal earlier this week.

Davis, who also played at Iona and St. John’s for Rick Pitino before spending two seasons with Hofstra, will be much closer to his home in Plano, Texas.

Hofstra also is expected to lose CAA Rookie of the Year Preston Edmead of Deer Park. The guard entered the portal last week and has not yet committed to another program but reportedly visited Oregon in recent days.

Davis averaged 20.1 points and Edmead 16.1. They were the only two players on the 24-win team in double figures in that category.

Hofstra did receive a transfer commitment from Tanner Thomas this week. The 6-6 guard was at Sacred Heart from 2021-25 and transferred to Loyola Marymount this past season but did not appear in any games. Thomas is the younger brother of Tyler Thomas, who spent two seasons at Hofstra and was the CAA Player of the Year for the Pride in 2024.
