St. John’s loss to Alabama on Saturday scrambled the two teams’ relative positions in the AP Top 25 poll released on Monday afternoon.

The Red Storm (1-1) dropped eight spots in the rankings, from No. 5 to No. 13, as a result of their 103-96 loss at Madison Square Garden. The Crimson Tide ascended from No. 15 to No. 8.

St. John’s wasn’t the only Top 10 team to suffer a loss. Defending national champion Florida fell from No. 3 to No. 10 after a loss to Arizona. The Wildcats moved up from No. 13 to No. 5.

Houston is No. 1 and Purdue No. 2 as the teams switched places. As for the other Big East teams, UConn moved up one slot to No. 3 and Creighton held steady at No. 23.

St. John’s next plays William & Mary on Saturday at Carnesecca Arena.

Big East nod for Ejiofor

Big East Preseason Player of the Year Zuby Ejiofor is the conference’s first player of the week this season. As the Red Storm split games with Quinnipiac and Alabama, he averaged 22.0 points, 8.0 rebounds, 3.0 assists, 1.5 blocks and 1.0 steal.
