The Giants are hiring Mike Bloomgren as offensive line coach, a league source confirmed to Newsday. Bloomgren was with the Browns last season in the same capacity.

Bloomgren returned to the NFL in 2025 after 16 years away. He began his NFL career as an offensive quality control coach with the Jets from 2007-08 under Bill Callahan. In 2009, he was the Jets’ assistant offensive coordinator under Rex Ryan.

While Bloomgren doesn’t have direct ties to Giants coach John Harbaugh, he worked at Stanford under David Shaw, who took over as head coach after Jim Harbaugh was hired by the 49ers after the 2010 season. Bloomgren was Shaw’s offensive line coach from 2011-17 and his offensive coordinator beginning in 2013.

Bloomgren also was Rice’s head coach from 2018-24 and had a 24-52 record.

The Browns were 27th in rushing last season but struggled to find continuity on the offensive line. According to NFL senior researcher Tony Holzman-Escareno, they had 28 offensive line combinations, tied for second most with the Saints.

Bloomgren inherits a Giants line led by star left tackle Andrew Thomas. Right tackle Jermaine Eluemunor and right guard Greg Van Roten are free agents and the Giants must decide whether to bring them back.

John Harbaugh has one vacancy left on the offensive side of his staff: quarterbacks coach. NFL Network reported this past week that he interviewed Arizona State offensive coordinator Marcus Arroyo for the job. Ravens quarterbacks coach Tee Martin also could be in play.

Harbaugh also bolstered his defensive staff by hiring Addison Lynch as a defensive backs coach, a source confirmed to Newsday. Lynch spent the last three seasons with the Broncos and was their cornerbacks coach last season before being fired in January.

Lynch will work under Donald D’Alesio, who was hired as secondary coach/defensive passing game coordinator.
