Jets backup running back Braelon Allen suffered an MCL sprain in Monday’s loss to the Dolphins and likely will be placed on injured reserve, a league source confirmed.

Allen was injured returning a kickoff early in the second quarter. He was ruled out pretty quickly after leaving the field. Allen had a rough night overall. He fumbled at the Miami 1-yard line just before crossing the goal-line on the Jets’ opening drive.

If Allen is put on IR, he will miss a minimum of four games. The earliest he could return is Week 10 against Baltimore following the Jets’ bye.

The second-year back was just starting to make a case for being more involved in the offense. Allen averaged 6.1 yards per touch over the last three games.

Breece Hall will continue to be the Jets’ lead back. Isaiah Davis will become Hall’s backup. Davis has five carries for 27 yards this season.
