The Jets met with 10-time Pro Bowl quarterback Russell Wilson on Monday at their practice facility, a league source confirmed.
Geno Smith will be the Jets’ starting quarterback this season, but they don’t have any experienced players to back him up. Wilson, 37, would give the Jets a proven quarterback who could help mentor some of the younger players in the room.
The other quarterbacks on the roster are Brady Cook, Bailey Zappe and Cade Klubnik, who the Jets drafted in the fourth round Saturday out of Clemson.
Tyrod Taylor was the Jets backup last season, and he remains unsigned.
Wilson spent last season with the Giants. He opened the season as their starting quarterback before being replaced by rookie Jaxson Dart in Week 4. Wilson threw for 831 yards, three touchdowns and three interceptions in six games last season.
He’s bounced around after spending 10 years with the Seahawks and helping them win Super Bowl. The Giants were Wilson’s third team in three years. He also played for the Broncos and Steelers.
