A look at the top lacrosse performers on Long Island this week:
BOYS LACROSSE
Andrew Buscaglia, Ward Melville: A late lacrosse winner isn’t uncommon in the playoffs, but doing so as time expires adds something special to the moment. Buscaglia’s fourth goal was exactly that in No. 8 Ward Melville’s 9-8 Suffolk Class A first-round win over No. 9 Floyd.
Colin Lennon, Huntington: His four goals and one assist helped No. 3 Huntington pull away from No. 6 Commack in the Suffolk Class A quarterfinals.
Zach Marco, Half Hollow Hills: The Thundercolts keep rolling, and Marco provided the fuel in No. 1 Hills’ Suffolk Class A quarterfinal win over No. 8 Ward Melville with six goals.
Hunter Marquardt, Comsewogue: He had three goals and one assist in No. 5 Comsewogue’s Suffolk Class B quarterfinal win over No. 4 Harborfields, including the go-ahead score with 1:57 remaining.
Tommy McCarvill and Harrison Behan, Port Washington: McCarvill had three goals and three assists for No. 3 Port Washington in its Nassau Class A win over No. 6 Plainview-Old Bethpage JFK. Behan, a defenseman by trade, added two goals and two assists as the Vikings scored 11 second-quarter goals.
Tristan Vitale, Sayville: With four goals and two assists, it’s fair to say Vitale was the catalyst behind No. 5 Sayville’s win over No. 4 Islip in the Suffolk Class B quarterfinal.
GIRLS LACROSSE
Kate Atkinson, Northport: The Tigers are moving on, and Atkinson’s five goals and one assist were exactly why as No. 3 Northport defeated No. 6 Connetquot in the Suffolk Class A quarterfinals.
Ava Franco, Longwood: A seven-goal game by Franco propelled No. 8 Longwood past No. 9 Bay Shore in the first round of the Suffolk Class A playoffs.
Isabella Peterson, Patchogue-Medford: Her game-high five points made the difference for No. 10 Patchogue-Medford in its first-round Suffolk Class A win over No. 7 Sachem North.

Valentina Puccio, Huntington: Puccio picked a good time for her best game of the season, scoring a season-high five goals along with two assists to lead No. 2 Huntington past No. 10 Patchogue-Medford in the Suffolk Class A quarterfinals.
Sophia Virgilio and Ella Treacy, St. John the Baptist: All hail the champions. Virgilio recorded her 100th point and scored seven of the Cougars' 13 goals against Nichols (Buffalo) in the state CHSAA Class A final. Treacy had a goal and five assists.
Madison Wade, Plainedge: In a county with few upsets, No. 6 Plainedge delivered one last Saturday in part on Wade’s five goals and one assist against No. 3 North Shore in the Nassau Class C quarterfinals.
