Newsday's top 50 field hockey players for 2025

Newsday's annual look at the top high school field hockey players on Long Island, listed in alphabetical order, heading into the season. All statistics are from last season, unless otherwise noted.
Carly Amato, East Islip, M, Sr.
The four-year varsity starter has played an integral role in helping East Islip make the playoffs the last three seasons. She had five goals and five assists.
Kacey Berger, Sachem East, F, Jr.
She led Sachem East in goals with 18 and also had nine assists.
Sophia Bolognini, Massapequa, M, Sr.
The senior captain has proved to be a poised player in high-pressure situations. She had four goals and eight assists.
Taylor Brink, Sayville, F, Jr.
Brink is very quick with excellent ball-handling skills and is aggressive in the circle. She had eight goals and four assists.
Marisa Cacciola, Shoreham-Wading River, F/D, Sr.
The Franklin Pierce commit is a four-year varsity starter who is a threat on offense and defense. She had three goals, three assists, and one defensive save.
Shannon Carney, Bayport-Blue Point, D/M, Sr.
Her skills and defensive background make her hard to beat on the left side, and she is a key player on defensive corners. She will become more of an offensive threat this year.
Emi Coronel, Carle Place, F/M, Jr.
She finished with 13 goals and 16 assists. She has exceptional skill, relentless drive, and a high field hockey IQ, making her a constant offensive threat.
Kate Comisky, Patchogue-Medford, GK, Sr.
The SUNY New Paltz commit finished with 77 saves, including 14 against Northport. She has great communication and is quick and agile in the cage.
Nina Corbett, D, Northport, Sr.
The Adelphi commit is strong defensively in the circle and on the offensive circle during corners. She has a strong drive and power to move the ball up the field.
Morgan Cousins, Bay Shore/Islip, GK, Sr.
She had 84 saves and helped Bay Shore to an 11-3 regular season. She had a GAA% of 0.95, and of the 14 goals she allowed, nine were to the top three teams.
Abigail DeNatalie, Bay Shore/Islip, M/D, Sr.
Her poise and field hockey IQ set her apart, and she is often noticed by opposing coaches as a force on the field. She is committed to Springfield College.
Madison DeLeon, Clarke, F, Sr.
DeLeon led Clarke’s offense, finishing with 11 goals and five assists, including four goals against North Shore.

Donnellan recorded one goal, two assists, and three defensive saves, helping Massapequa earn 10 total shutouts.
Sophia Fox, Patchogue-Medford, M/F, Sr.
Her vision and ability to scan while in pressure situations makes her a smart player that chooses her next pass or movement wisely. The East Stroudsburg commit had six goals and four assists.
Juliet Gianfrancesco, Harborfields, M, Sr.
She’s a dynamic midfielder who has incredible game sense, which leads to defensive interceptions and offensive breakouts. She had 10 goals and nine assists.
Caroline Gilhuley, Harborfields, F, Sr.
The Roanoke College commit is Harborfields’ sole returning forward. Because of her speed and deceptiveness, she is expected to be an even bigger presence on offense this season.
Ava Gomes, Carle Place, D, Jr.
Gomes is a rock-solid presence on the back line and a key reason behind the team’s defensive success. Her grit, positioning, and ability to shut down top scorers make her a player to watch.
Aliya Hassett, Massapequa, M, Jr.
The Wagner College commit and All-Long Island first team selection led Nassau in assists, finishing with 19. She added two goals.
Samantha Henry, Sayville, GK, Jr.
Henry had one of the highest save percentages on Long Island at 76.9. She had 134 saves and six shutouts.
Madison Herr, Shoreham-Wading River, F, Jr.
She led the Wildcats in goals as a sophomore with 26 and tacked on 16 assists. Herr’s scoring ability, vision, and speed make her one of the top players to watch and a game-changer on the field.
Kelsey Hoffman, Miller Place, F, Soph.
She had 11 goals and eight assists, including four goals against Smithtown West.
Jillian Kobel, Whitman, M, Sr.
Her excellent stickwork, outstanding field sense, and quick decision-making make her an invaluable asset to any team. The Union College commit had six goals and nine assists.
Lexie Kennedy, Bayport-Blue Point, D/M, Sr.
Kennedy has great control and speed and is a key player on defensive corners. She will play a bigger role this season, transitioning to midfield and controlling the field more.
Keira Lombardo, Sayville, M/F, Jr.
Lombardo has solid stickwork. She had 10 goals and eight assists.
Kate Macaluso, Whitman, F, Jr.
Her quick stick skills, sharp reaction time, and ability to recognize and exploit open spaces in a crowded circle create constant scoring opportunities. She had nine goals and four assists.

Ashley Miller, Sachem East, D, Sr.
The four-year varsity starter helped lead Sachem East to the state final. She’s a dynamic player who can play any position on the field. She finished with seven goals and seven assists.
Caroline Mitek, Huntington, F, Jr.
She is a tremendous impact player who has amazing stickwork and transition skills. She is able to see the entire field and can finish in the goal circle with a goal or assist.
Katelynn Murtha, Eastport-South Manor, M, Jr.
She makes it look easy because of her attitude and natural skill. She finished with 10 goals and three assists.
Taylor Murtha, Eastport-South Manor, M, Sr.
The five-year varsity starter had seven goals and three assists. She’s an extremely disciplined athlete who has gotten stronger each year.

The Pace commit had five goals and five assists, helping lead Miller Place to the county championship.
Madison O’Hagan, Seaford, M, Jr.
She dominates the field as a center midfielder and helped Seaford go undefeated in Conference II. She finished with seven goals and nine assists.
Ireland Protosow, Rocky Point, M, Sr.
The Ohio Wesleyan University commit brings experience and leadership. She has a strong sweep, strong reverse play and excellent field vision.
Morgan Quirk, Sachem North, M, Sr.
She has incredible stickwork, strength, and an unbelievable field sense. She moves the ball skillfully up the field and has great vision and awareness. She is a crucial component on both offense and defense.
Emily Racich, Garden City, M, Jr.
She controls the center of the field and is a consistent and strong player who is a constant threat on offense and a solid wall on defense. Her speed while carrying the ball makes her difficult to defend.
Eden Randall, Manhasset, M/F, Jr.
She has a high field hockey IQ and is a natural leader on the field. She will provide a jolt to the Manhasset offense this season. She had seven goals and five assists.
Jessica Reiter, Seaford, F, Sr.
Coach Elizabeth Waterbury is excited to see what Reiter will accomplish this season as she transitions from a midfielder to a forward. She had nine goals and four assists.

Megan Rice, GK, Carle Place, Sr.
The Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute commit made 70 saves, finishing ninth in saves in Nassau.
Kylie Russo, Manhasset, F, Sr.
Russo is a power forward projected to be a big contributor. She finished with six goals and four assists.
Bella Scionti, Sachem North, D, Sr.
The SUNY Oneonta commit is a leader and impact player. She has great field vision, stick skills, and distributes the ball very well.
Emily Sepcaru, New Hyde Park, F, Sr.
The SUNY New Paltz commit finished with 15 points, including 13 goals and two assists.
Isabella Sharp, Sachem East, Sr.
Sharp brings strength and experience to the field. She had one goal and four assists.
Emma Sherwood, Smithtown West, F, Sr.
Sherwood has quick hands, is able to eliminate defenders and goalkeepers in small spaces, and seeks out passing opportunities wherever possible. She had nine goals and nine assists.

Smith has a great field hockey IQ. She stops everything that comes her way and makes the smart decision in high-intensity situations.
Catalina Suau, Garden City, M, Sr.
She is a super athletic and selfless midfielder who has a strong presence on the field. Her combination of skill and speed makes her a threat on the left side.
Julianna Tietjen, Northport, F, Jr.
She is able to weave through the defense and make plays happen. She finished as the second-highest scorer on Long Island, recording 29 goals and seven assists.
Hadley Torre, Ward Melville, M/D, Sr.
The Middlebury College commit finished with four goals and five assists.

Gianna Ventura, East Meadow, F, Sr.
She was the leading scorer in Nassau with 27 goals and 17 assists, including a game-winning goal against Port Washington to send her team to the county finals.
Raylee Weisman, Rocky Point, M, Sr.
Despite missing games last season with an injury, she still finished with nine goals. She is known for her speed, strength, and leadership.
Hailey Welsch, East Hampton, M, Sr.
Welsch is a three-year starter who had eight assists. She will be a key player with strong stick skills and a high field hockey IQ.
Frankie Zins, Smithtown West, M, Soph.
Zins is the backbone of both the offense and defense. She is aggressive and extremely skilled with her stick work and has an amazing vision on the field. She had two goals and 11 assists.
