High school roundup: Boys and girls basketball playoff results

Lawrence Brown made two free throws with 3.3 seconds left to clinch No. 10 Wheatley’s 42-39 victory over No. 7 North Shore in the first round of the Nassau Class A boys basketball playoffs in Glen Head on Wednesday night.
Aadi Patel led Wheatley with 10 points. Elias Habib and Tim Song each played strong defense in the win. Wheatley (13-7) will visit No. 2 Floral Park in the quarterfinals at 11 a.m. on Saturday. Del Neal led all scorers with 18 points for North Shore, which finished 8-12.
Sayville 42, Shoreham-Wading River 37: Wesley Jones had 17 points and 11 rebounds to lead No. 7 Sayville past No. 2 Shoreham-Wading River in the quarterfinals of the Suffolk Class A playoffs. Brady O’Donoghue added 10 points. Sayville (14-7) will visit No. 3 Kings Park in the semifinals at 5 p.m. next Wednesday. Zachary Makarewicz had 14 points for Shoreham-Wading River, which finished 17-4.
GIRLS BASKETBALL
Hauppauge 49, Smithtown West 48: Jules Fortune scored 14 points to lead No. 6 Hauppauge over No. 3 Smithtown West in the quarterfinals of the Suffolk Class AA playoffs. Crisalyn Abruscato had 11 points and Gabby Cane added 10. Hauppauge (16-4) will visit No. 2 Westhampton in the semifinals next Thursday. Alyssa Lorefice scored 25 points for Smithtown West, which finished 15-6.
Westhampton 55, West Babylon 31: Sandra Clarke had 12 points, 10 rebounds and five assists to lead No. 2 Westhampton over No. 7 West Babylon in the quarterfinals of the Suffolk Class AA playoffs. Kate Sweet had 14 points and five steals. Westhampton (19-2) will host No. 6 Hauppauge in the semifinals next Thursday. Gia Coldanato scored 11 for West Babylon, which finished 13-9.
