1. St. Anthony’s
The Friars (16-3) enjoyed a 10-game winning streak before Thursday’s loss to Archbishop Molloy. Their other two losses came to out-of-state opponents earlier in the season. Keep an eye on Sunday’s matchup with Mount St.Dominic (NJ) and Tuesday’s tilt with East Islip.
2. Oceanside
Oceanside (14-3) picked up a crucial win this week, defeating Massapequa, 6-0, to sweep the season series. The Sailors have won 10 of their last 11 games, shutting out their opponents in the last three. They stand alone in first in Nassau’s top conference.
3. Massapequa
A second loss to Oceanside surely stung, but Massapequa (11-5) has looked strong lately. Massapequa defeated the reigning state Class A champion Miller Place last week and was on a seven-game winning streak. Massapequa has scored 122 runs this season and has the highest run differential (61) in the conference.
4. Sachem North
Sachem North (13-2) stands atop a brutal League II. Its only losses came to Northport and Commack, each by one run. The rematch with Northport on Friday will likely have a big impact on the league title and playoff seeding.
5. Wantagh
Wantagh (9-4) got off to a hot start, winning its first five games and seven of its first eight. Lucy Olore tossed a no-hitter against Glen Cove before Wantagh suffered a three-game losing streak. The team rebounded with a win over MacArthur and a 10-inning walk-off victory over Syosset this week.
6. Miller Place
The Panthers (11-3) can play with anyone. They still have a state championship caliber offense. Sophomore pitcher Tiffany Clasen has proved to be dangerous in her first year in the circle. A 4-1 loss at Kings Park is the Panthers’ only Suffolk blemish. They also lost to Kings Park on the road last year, when they won the state Class A title.
7. Commack
The Cougars (12-3) have won six in a row as pitcher Kate Schweitzer has turned it up a notch. Her 18 strikeouts led Commack to a massive 2-1 win over Sachem North on Monday. The Cougars will go as far as Schweitzer takes them.
8. Mepham
The Pirates (7-6) have found their groove of late, as they are on a three-game winning streak with wins over Syosset, Calhoun and Glen Cove. The Pirates don’t light up the scoreboard, but the pitching of Keira Ulmschneider and Olivia Zukowski usually makes sure their opponent doesn’t either.
9. East Islip
After a rocky start, the reigning Suffolk AA champions are riding a seven-game winning streak. During that stretch, East Islip (9-3) has scored at least eight runs in each game. A win over St. Anthony’s on Tuesday would be a huge momentum boost with the playoffs around the corner.
10. Calhoun
The Colts (9-9) have shown the ability to be competitive against anyone. Calhoun held Oceanside to three runs, in its two-one run losses against the Sailors. Calhoun’s 89 runs are the second most in Conference I.
On the cusp: Kellenberg, Plainview-Old Bethpage JFK, Kings Park, Seaford, Northport.
