Finger flashlight toys sold on Amazon, Walmart sites recalled over battery risks

Nearly 180,000 electronic finger light toys sold via Amazon were recalled over easy access to batteries that could cause serious injury or death if swallowed, the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission announced last week.

Identified as "Cade California Electronic Projecting Finger Light Toys," the finger flashlights "contain button cell batteries that can be easily accessed by children," according to a recall notice posted last week. If swallowed, the batteries could cause serious injuries, like internal chemical burns and death, the notice says. No incidents or injuries were reported in the notice.

An Amazon storefront under the name California Cade Electronic offers finger lights labeled "currently unavailable," stainless steel snack containers, chalkboard signs and baking implements. 

The recall involves approximately 179,739 units sold via Amazon between March 2015 and July 2026 for $5 to $16. The multicolored lights, which "violate the mandatory safety standard for toys," were sold in packs of 50, the recall states.

Those who purchased the product "should stop using the recalled toys immediately" and "properly dispose of" them, the notice says. It includes a warning about button cell batteries.

"Button cell batteries are hazardous," the recall says. "Batteries should be disposed of or recycled by following local hazardous waste procedures."

For a refund, consumers can send a photo of the product to ccecamazonservice@gmail.com, the notice says.

Newsday reached out to the given contact and did not immediately receive a response.

Walmart also shared the recall notice on its product recalls page, noting the toys were sold through its website, though the recall notice does not name Walmart.
