Altera Digital Health, an electronic health records IT company, is laying off 133 workers at its Melville offices starting at the end of the year, according to state Labor Department filings.

The company's offices at 3 Huntington Quadrangle just off Maxess Road will be laying off workers starting on Dec. 31, according to a state Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification published late last month. The layoffs, which are the result of a "contract expiration," according to the notice, are expected to conclude on March 31.

Officials with Altera did not immediately respond to requests for comment Thursday morning.

Niagara Falls-based Altera provides software, cloud services and IT support to hospitals and health systems that help manage patient records, billing and healthcare data, according to its website.

Altera was founded in 2022 after N. Harris Computer Corporation purchased Allscripts Healthcare Solutions' hospital business segment.

The company, which sells its Sunrise, Paragon and TouchWorks lines of electronic health records to health systems across the country, is a competitor of Epic Systems, another health records business.

In early 2023, Northwell Health, the state's largest private employer, announced plans to implement Epic's records software systemwide as part of a $1.2 billion modernization effort. The effort is part of a shift away from Allscripts, according to Becker's Hospital Review, a healthcare news and analysis publication.

The state's WARN Act requires employers with at least 50 full-time employees to file a notice with the state 90 days in advance of a planned mass layoff or business closure.
