Although summer is more than half a year away, plans are being made for the Great South Bay Music Festival, which is set for July 23-26, at Shorefront Park in Patchogue. Rock reggae-ska band Sublime will headline the second day on July 24 with opening act Common Kings. The band, formerly called Sublime With Rome, consists of original bassist Eric Wilson, original drummer Bud Gaugh and singer-guitarist Jakob Nowell, son of late original singer-guitarist Bradley Nowell.
"We had Sublime With Rome twice in the past [2018 and 2019] and the response was always great," festival founder-promoter Jim Faith says. "Our annual rock-reggae Friday at Great South Bay is always a party and having the reformed Sublime with Bradley’s son, Jakob, is historic, to Sublime lovers and reggae fans in general."
Sublime will play songs from its three albums, "40oz. to Freedom" (1992), "Robbin’ the Hood" (1994) and "Sublime" (1996), including the hits "Santeria," "Wrong Way," "What I Got" and "Doin’ Time." The trio released the single "Ensenada" earlier this year and is set to drop a new album.
Tickets ($89, VIP: $150, Ultra VIP: $250) go on sale Monday at 10 a.m. via greatsouthbayfestival.com.
