"Saturday Night Live" alum and "Bridesmaids" star Maya Rudolph is set to make her Broadway debut as Mrs. Lincoln in "Oh, Mary!" at the Lyceum Theatre next month, producers announced Thursday.
The six-time Emmy Award winner will star in the hit show for an eight-week run beginning April 28 through June 20.
Cole Escola's comedy centers around Mary Todd Lincoln in the weeks before the assassination of Abraham Lincoln, re-imagining the first lady as deranged fan obsessed with becoming a cabaret star.
Escola wrote and originated the role of the president's wife Off-Broadway at the Lucille Lortel Theatre in 2024. "Oh, Mary!" extended its run three times before premiering on Broadway that July, becoming the first show in the Lyceum's 121-year history to gross more than $1,000,000 in ticket sales in a single week. The following June, Escola took home the Tony Award for lead actor in a play and Sam Pinkleton won for directing, with the show going on to break its own box-office record 12 more times.
“Ever since I was a little girl, I have dreamed of being Cole Escola,” Rudolph, 53, said in a statement. “Oh, Mary! is the funniest play I have ever seen, and I have seen a lot of plays, you’d be surprised. It’s such an honor to play the role of Mary, especially after so many iconic Marys have come before me. So making my Broadway debut in the role of a lifetime — as a miserable, suffocated, alcoholic woman — is a real dream come true.”
The show, currently starring John Cameron Mitchell ("Hedwig and the Angry Inch") as Mary, John-Andrew Morrison ("A Strange Loop") as the president, and Simu Liu ("Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings") as Mary's teacher, has been extended through Jan. 3, 2027. A West End run is currently at London's Trafalgar Theatre through July 18, and a North American national tour is set to launch from Hartford, Connecticut, in September.
