J.McLaughlin: Summertime opens in Southampton

At J.McLaughlin: Summertime: Southampton, the new boutique that opened last month, the vibe is so crisp and chic with such a distinct Italian bent that you might imagine the likes of Gina Lollobrigida or Sophia Loren strolling in.

This is the first in a new seasonal resort retail concept from the brand J.McLaughlin and is set next door to the Southampton J.McLaughlin shop that has been there since 2002. The aura here conjures the feeling of the 1950s Italian seaside with its classic blue-and-white stripes, whitewashed wood, rattan textures and wicker details. Venetian-born interior designer Alvise Orsini says he drew inspiration for the design from “the striped cabanas at the Lido in Venice where I grew up. It’s one of the world’s oldest resort destinations, rich in tradition and quiet elegance, which felt like the perfect fit ... for J.McLaughlin. This collaboration is a kind of voyage, transporting the essence of the Serenissima to Southampton.”

Here find curated, archival J.McLaughlin goods including vintage wicker handbags ($158-$248), silk handkerchiefs and heritage scarves ($78) alongside fresh new arrivals that underscore the brand’s modern take on timeless coastal style. “We’re inviting customers to step directly into the narrative of a perfect seaside holiday,” CEO Greg Unis says. “It’s more than just a store. It’s a dynamic blend of boutique and clubhouse, a place where people can gather, linger and truly experience the essence of our brand.”

Added to the fashionable mix is Orsini’s artisanal handblown Murano glass collection — his first — created especially for the store. The sparkly lineup includes striped tumblers in jewel tones such as azure blue and topaz green, emerald-rimmed pitchers and sophisticated cocktail glasses ($500-$900 per set) available exclusively in the United States here.
