The Outpost, a home goods store in Jamesport, is what owner Norine Pennacchia describes as a "smaller, more lighthearted and curated version of touchGOODS," another shop she manages in Southold.

"The Outpost is more playful and compact, while touchGOODS focuses on furniture, lighting and larger home design pieces. It is less about outfitting an entire home," says Pennacchia of the shop that opened in May.

Some differences between the two shops is that The Outpost includes an infant and kids department and bridal accessories. Shoppers will find Long Island-themed onesies, polarized sunglasses, towels, swaddles, beach goggles and life jackets.

Like touchGOODS, The Outpost also offers kitchen essentials like utensils, seafood picks, fish turners, oyster knives, barware, baking equipment and cookware.

The store is stacked with gadgets including wine bottle openers and chillers, salad spinners, mixing bowls and barbecue tools.

Since opening, the store’s top-selling items have been bandannas, beach cooler bags, picnic/cooler baskets, trucker hats and repurposed, decorative horseshoes.

"The Jamesport location felt like the ideal 'new frontier'; a bit more to the west on the map, making it a great spot to experiment with a relaxed, Western-themed atmosphere," she says.

TouchGOODS opened in 2016 and expanded into housewares in an adjacent space in 2022. Opening another location this year was an organic decision, notes Pennacchia.

"Sometimes, creative juices overflow beyond the scope of your work, and you need a space to let them flow," she says. "Plus, the space in Jamesport came with a carved wooden rhinoceros, and it just felt right," explains Pennacchia.

Shoppers will also find humorous greeting cards for $3.99 to the most expensive items, which are rechargeable indoor and outdoor table lamps by Zafferano.

Additionally, the store sells various items made by Long Island artisans, including original watercolor design greeting cards and quilted coasters.

The store plans to host events, including a paddleboarding expedition called Outpost Paddle Out.

"You'll find a little bit of everything; only the good stuff," Pennacchia says. We've gathered kitchen basics, elevated home accessories, playful gifts and a growing section for kids, all with a focus on design, quality and a touch of personality."
