The dining scene in Hicksville just got beefier, with the new halal smashburger spot Flippin Buns.
The concept was started by the brothers behind nearby chicken joint Slappin Chick, Aziz and Zafar Ahmad. It took about 15 months to open the takeout-centric eatery, which opened last month, Aziz Ahmad said.
The location at the new Soni Centre strip mall was the only space that Aziz Ahmad found that worked for the concept. "I wanted to stay close to home and oversee the restaurants," he said.
The menu includes classic burgers with onions, pickles and a signature Flippin Sauce ($6.50) as well as twists like the Green Kick burger ($7) with jalapeños for a bit of heat. Fries are served plain ($4.50) or loaded with onions, cheese and sauce ($8).
"We’re trying to keep it simple," Aziz Ahmad said, "so we could focus on the burgers and the quality of the food."
Flippin Buns, 350 S. Broadway, Hicksville, 718-569-5580. Open 11 a.m. to midnight daily.
