Less than two weeks after the Limani group closed its Italian restaurant, Carpaccio, at the Walt Whitman Shops in Huntington Station, it also shuttered the Woodbury venue, Limani Taverna. A sign posted to the front door said that the last dinner was on Sept. 28, thanked customers for "being part of our story" and directing them to "sister locations in Roslyn and Commack." The restaurant's owners could not immediately be reached for comment.

Limani Taverna opened in 2018 as Oniro Taverna. It was a more casual, less expensive brand extension for the original Limani, the Roslyn restaurant that opened in Roslyn in 2008 and transformed Greek dining on Long Island. It’s been a perennial presence on Newday’s Best Seafood list.

In 2022, Oniro renovated and changed its name to Limani Taverna. By that time, the group had opened Limani Mezze, in Roslyn’s Harbourview Shoppes (2021 to 2024) and Limani Grille, which opened in the old Bonwit Inn in Commack and is still open.

Outside of Long Island, the group has opened opulent, full-scale Limanis in Manhattan’s Rockefeller Center (2008), Charlotte, North Carolina, and Chestnut Hill, Massachusetts (2022) and Washington, D.C. (2023).

The sign is already down at Limani Taverna. The freestanding building just west of Crest Hollow Country Club (and also owned by the country club's owner, Richard Monti) has had a series of tenants since 2014 when Majors Steakhouse was replaced by P.J. Clarke's, the historic Manhattan bar and grill. P.J. Clarke's closed in 2016, replaced by the Napa-valley-themed Honig Grill, which closed in 2017, paving the way for the Limani team.
