In the mood for queso and chips? You’re in luck, because Qdoba Mexican Eats is expanding, with five new spots across Long Island.
The brand known for its Southwest steak burrito and chicken queso bowl is opening new locations in Lake Grove, Deer Park, Lindenhurst, Bethpage and Riverhead, according to Jeff J. Froccaro, president of the Burger Brothers Restaurant Group that owns the development rights to Qdoba in Suffolk and Nassau counties. The Port Washington-based group operates more than 40 fast-casual spots including Burger Kings and Dave's Hot Chicken.
Long Island's first Qdoba opened in 2018 in East Meadow. Other outposts include Plainview, Farmingdale, Massapequa, Bay Shore and Hauppauge.
"There is a tremendous demand for Qdoba Mexican east on Long Island," Froccaro said in an emailed statement.
Qdoba will be coming to the Smith Grove Shopping center at 141 Alexander Ave. The 2,600-square-foot space is projected to open in early October, Froccaro said, and will have patio seating.
The Deer Park location, at 1822 Deer Park Ave., will be the ninth restaurant for the group and third in Suffolk County. The 2,400-square-foot building will also have patio seating and is projected to open in November.
The other new Long Island locations are all "at various stages of development," Froccaro said, but all will include drive-through lanes.
Qdoba was founded as Zuma Fresh Mexican Grill in Denver, Colorado, in 1995. By 1999 the brand had changed its name to Qdoba Mexican Grill. Its 600th restaurant opened in 2011 followed by an international expansion to Canada in 2012. The company changed its name to Qdoba Mexican Eats by 2015.
