3-year-old boy dies after he's found unresponsive in Central Islip swimming pool, Suffolk police say

A toddler died after he was found unresponsive on Friday night in a residential swimming pool in Central Islip, according to the Suffolk County Police Department.
The name of the boy, a 3-year-old from Brentwood, was not released.
He had been attending a party with family on Bark Avenue.
"Two family members found him and pulled him from the pool," the department wrote in a news release.
He was brought via ambulance to South Shore University Hospital in Bay Shore where he was declared dead.
The Suffolk police press office declined to answer questions, such as whether the toddler had a flotation device, how long he had been in the water, his name or the suspected cause of death.
The boy’s death comes less than a week after another toddler, a 2-year-old girl in Mastic Beach, was found unresponsive in a pool Monday.
No update on the girl’s condition has been provided.
About 125 New Yorkers died by drowning in 2024, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, and drowning is the top cause of death for children aged between 1 and 4 nationwide, Newsday has reported.
