A Smithtown home with an indoor koi pond is on the market for $1.375 million. The taxes are $20,848.

Nestled in a wooded landscape on Oakside Drive near the Nissequogue River, the house sits on a 1.86-acre lot. The ranch-style home contains four bedrooms and three bathrooms, spanning 3,300 square feet.

"It’s on a hilltop, so really no one sees you," said listing agent Kristine Livadas, of Compass. "And you don’t really see it from the street."

The house was built in 1967 and has a "midcentury modern vibe," the agent said. Over a bridgelike path, through the front door and into the foyer, a koi pond surrounded by greenery welcomes visitors inside. This showstopper is visible at different vantage points of the home, Livadas said, such as through glass paneling on the walk down to the lower level.

"It’s set up like a bridge," she said. "One side is a staircase and the other side is a koi pond. It’s very Zen."

The property includes radiant heating in its concrete flooring and a solar panel system, which is "included with the sale and owned by the house," Livadas added. Two large koi fish are also included in the sale.

The lower level features a guest suite with its own full bathroom and entrance on one side, and a gym on the other side.

"The basement is split into two pieces," Livadas said. "There are two separate staircases to access it, because the house was really built around this koi pond feature."

To top off the indoor-outdoor feel, the house is "surrounded by windows on two full sides, so it’s nonstop sunlight coming through," the agent said. And there are accordion doors in the back of the home, which can be folded to the wall to create a "16 to 20-foot expanse, completely open to the back deck," Livadas said.

Other standout features include a generator and a double-sided wood burning fireplace. Outside, there is an in-ground pool with a stone firepit nearby. The property is in the Smithtown Central School District.

"I feel like it has a lot of luxury features, even though it’s a smaller house," Livadas said.
