DENVER — Colorado's Jake McCarthy hit a go-ahead grand slam in the eighth inning of a tie game off Craig Kimbrel and the Mets saw their three-game winning streak snapped with a 6-2 loss to the Rockies Thursday afternoon. The Rockies avoided the sweep and just the third winless homestand of at least six games in franchise history.
The grand slam snapped a 2-2 tie and was the second home run in as many days for McCarthy, who had entered the series without a homer in his previous 22 games with at least one at-bat. The homer, which snuck just inside the foul pole in rightfield, was upheld after an umpire review. McCarthy, who is hitting .354 since April 5, had previously tied the score at 2 in the sixth with an RBI double to centerfield.
The Mets took a 2-0 lead in the second. Andy Ibanez's sacrifice fly drove in Austin Slater and Tyrone Taylor's RBI single drove in Marcus Semien. Starter Christian Scott allowed one run and three hits in 4 2/3 innings. He struck out six and walked two. Huascar Brazoban allowed the RBI double to McCarthy in the sixth.
Antonio Senzatela (2-0) threw two scoreless innings to earn the win. Colorado’s bullpen shut out the Mets across 3 1/3 innings, a stretch in which they allowed just one hit.
