Chris Gabriele’s major championship debut has come to a close, but that didn't put a damper on the experience for the Cold Spring Harbor native.

The 30-year-old Gabriele, a Huntington resident and head pro at Old Westbury Golf and Country Club, did not make the cut at the PGA Championship, shooting a 7-over 77 in the second round Friday afternoon amid rigorous conditions at Aronimink Golf Club in Newtown Square, Pennsylvania.

He finished his tournament at 14-over par after also recording a 77 on Thursday.

“The overall experience was incredible,” Gabriele said in a text message to Newsday on Friday night. “My dreams came true this week. The conditions were extremely tough, but it was so fun to battle against the world’s best. I couldn’t be happier to have been here this week. To share this week with my friends and family couldn’t be more special.”

Gabriele teed off at 12:26 p.m., playing alongside world No. 86 Taylor Pendrith (3-over par for the tournament) and world No. 132 William Mouw (4-over par) for the second straight day.

He started his day strong and was even par through the front nine, including a birdie on the par-4 second hole, but had three bogeys and two double bogeys on the back nine.

Gabriele qualified for the PGA Championship by placing in the top 20 of last month’s PGA Professional Championship at Bandon Dunes Golf Resort in Oregon, finishing tied for 10th after an eagle on his final hole.

He’ll soon have a crack at his second major appearance, as he told Newsday last month that he will participate in next month’s U.S. Open final qualifying ahead of the June 18-21 tournament at Shinnecock Hills Golf Club in Southampton.
