Christopher Trinca blocked a punt, setting up Kalen Percer’s game-winning 7-yard rushing touchdown with 42 seconds left to complete the comeback for St. John the Baptist in its CHSFL home opener, 24-21, over Xaverian Friday night. Maurice Scott rushed for 248 yards and two touchdowns, including a 52-yard TD in the fourth quarter as the Cougars scored two TDs inside the game’s final seven minutes.
Trinca led the defense with 10 tackles and a tackle for loss. Percer had eight carries for 35 yards and two TDs, adding two catches for five yards.
Don Bosco Prep (N.J.) 28, St. Anthony’s 0: Johnny Russo had four receptions for 53 yards for St. Anthony’s (1-2) in non-league. Jax Prokop had three receptions for 32 yards and Kevin Moore had one catch for 44 yards and an interception. Anthony Diieso completed 12 passes for 153 yards.
Holy Trinity 14, Morris Catholic 6: Joe Henn had eight tackles and two interceptions to lead Holy Trinity (1-1) in a non-league matchup against New Jersey’s Morris Catholic. Tyler Jerrick rushed for 125 yards and a touchdown on 20 carries. Darnell Rinl had an interception to seal the game.
SATURDAY’S GAMES
St. Dominic 22, Nazareth 6: Louis Gounaris threw for 157 yards and two touchdowns, leading St. Dominic to a home win in the CHSFL. Anthony Branscum had 65 rushing yards and a touchdown. Nick Lang had 41 receiving yards and a score and Mike Ford had 62 receiving yards and a touchdown. Vincenso Sicuranza had two sacks, one of which resulted in a safety.
Pope John XXIII (N.J.) 35, Kellenberg 0: Luke Irwin threw three TD passes for host Pope John XXIII in non-league.
