Newsday's 2025 high school fantasy football league.

Week 1 of Newsday’s high school fantasy football league is in the books.

Team Slawson led the league with 264 points, showing off his knowledge of Long Island football. His selections of Aidan Winter, Tim Stanley, Jake Simmons and Simon Blisset all topped 35 points, with Winter posting a league-high 58 in his opening performance.

Team Ruban finished second with 212 points, led by running backs Justin DePietro, Yasir Jones and Javon Barnwell. Team Sicoli placed third with 208, guided by Brian Falk and Ryan Murgatroyd.

“We're definitely having fun, but I told everyone I had the best team, because I had two of the best sleeper picks,” Slawson said. “Those kids were Tim Stanley of Division and Jake Simmons of East Islip and everyone better get out of the way because Team Slawson is on a rampage.”

Team Kellman’s quarterback group performed very well. Patrick Coan, Lincoln Riggs and Brayden Robertiello each scored more than 30 points last week.

On defense, Sayville, Plainedge and Mepham all recorded shutouts. Plainedge’s defense put up the top total with 21 points for Team Lindsay, boosted by Jonny Cynar’s interception return for a touchdown.

There were also notable injuries. Jake Calloway of Westhampton and Team Kellman and Max Ferraro of Eastport-South Manor and Team Sarra both went down in the opening week.

Calloway suffered a collarbone injury, according to Westhampton coach Bryan Schaumloffel.

“It happened right before halftime. He took a hit and it did some damage to his collarbone,” Schaumloffel said. “Right now he’s out and still under evaluation for how long it’ll be.”

Ferraro was limited but is expected back soon.

“He got banged up but came back defensively,” Eastport-South Manor coach Guy Buckley said. “It happened before halftime, but he’s good to go moving forward.”

League rules allow teams to add players to expand their rosters but are not permitted to drop any. Teams can add one player per week, up to four total, with a maximum of one quarterback, one running back, one wide receiver and one defense.

Here are the latest adds heading into Week 2:

Team Sicoli: RB Cris Peralta, Brentwood

Team Hank: RB Jalen Jean-Louis, Commack

Team Lindsay: WR Taylor Nitsch, Plainedge

Team Katzen: WR Aiden Mirelis, Division
