Team Sicoli moves into first place in Newsday high school fantasy football league

Newsday's 2025 high school fantasy football league.
A new team in first place, breakout performances, and a record-setting day highlighted Week 2 of Newsday’s high school fantasy football league.
Team Sicoli (463 points) moved into first place after scoring 255 points last week. Team Slawson sits in second, while Team Matias climbed to third.
“It’s been a blast. All these players are so competitive on the field,” Sicoli said. “It’s been great in the office and a lot of fun to see them out there.”
Sicoli’s surge was fueled by Oceanside quarterback Shane Harmon, who turned in a memorable performance with 67 fantasy points. Harmon threw for 349 yards and six touchdowns in a shootout against Farmingdale.
“He did a good job connecting with a lot of our receivers,” Oceanside coach Rob Blount said. “For him to have those stats in a high school game is quite the achievement. You had so many great performances in one game, so it’s pretty special.”
Team Matias jumped into third place behind Josh Kama’s record-breaking day. The Farmingdale senior rushed for a Long Island single-game record of 495 yards and scored seven touchdowns, racking up 91 fantasy points — the highest single-week total so far in the league.
“It all starts with our offensive line, and those guys get it going,” Farmingdale coach Buddy Krumenacker said. “Kama has great vision and that’s a big piece for a running back. He sees more things than someone else would.”
The quarterback trio of St. John the Baptist’s Maurice Scott, Seaford’s Michael Spinella and Syosset’s Ethan Dizon also contributed for Matias, combining for 98 points.
Team Lindsay had great performances from late-round draft picks. Longwood running back Kyon Sarwari and West Islip quarterback TJ Sonnenberg each scored more than 30 points to boost the lineup.
A recent addition played a big role for Team Sarra. Wantagh’s Luke Martini, added last week, rushed for 191 yards and four touchdowns, good for 44 fantasy points.
“The overall experience of the league has been fun. I thought we blew it in the additional draft by not picking Martini because he’s an outstanding talent,” Sarra said. “So I’m very lucky that he was available to fill my last running back spot.”
Dropping players is not permitted, but teams can add up to four during the season — one quarterback, one running back, one wide receiver and one defense.
Recent additions included St. Anthony’s quarterback Anthony Diieso to Team Ruban, Kings Park quarterback Brandon Shapiro to Team Hank and Carle Place wide receiver Ryan Leary to Team Sicoli.
“We’re just having a great time,” Sicoli said. “My team added Ryan Leary, one of the best athletes on Long Island. I watched him lift a state title for Carle Place boys soccer last year, and this year he’ll be lifting a title for Team Sicoli in the Newsday High School Fantasy Football League.”
