Newsday's 2025 high school fantasy football league.

Three weeks have been completed in Newsday’s High School Football Fantasy League, and the race for first is tight. Team Matias (651 points) has surged to the top. Team Slawson is second at 650 and Team Sicoli sits in third at 630.

“Football has always been big for us, but now with this league it feels like there is more interest and everyone is enjoying it,” Chris Matias said.

“My team started off a little slow, but somehow, some way they let me get [Farmingdale’s] Josh Kama in the draft and he’s been great, and the rest of my team has also been great.”

Team Matias had another week surpassing 200 points. Kama collected 58 points in another stellar performance.

Team Matias selected St. John the Baptist quarterback Maurice Scott in the 10th round, and he has quietly been one of the most productive players in the CHSFL. Scott has totaled 1,389 yards of offense in his first five games.

“He’s a quiet leader and he plays really hard,” St. John the Baptist coach Phil Alba said. “His numbers are great. As a runner, he’s one of the leaders in the Catholic league. People don’t realize how fast he is; if he can get a seam, he’ll run away from everyone.”

Team Lindsay had a well-rounded performance with eight of his players eclipsing 20 points. Kai Jankow of Babylon was the top scorer in his lineup with 39 points.

Team Katzen posted its best performance, scoring 240 points to lead the league this week. New addition Colin Clark of Bayport-Blue Point led the league with 72 points. Early-round picks AJ Rudolph of Miller Place and Chace Morris of Oceanside also were top scorers for Team Katzen, which moved up from eighth place to sixth.

Late-round picks bolstered Team Ferguson to another solid week, scoring 194 points. Jayden Smith of Half Hollow Hills West and Port Washington quarterback Harry Eynon both scored 28.

Teams can add up to four players — a quarterback, running back, wide receiver and a defense — but can’t drop anyone. Plenty of new players joined rosters last week.

Islip quarterback Jack Rao scored 65 for Team Sarra. Team Hank got a big lift from Kings Park quarterback Brandon Shapiro and wide receiver Matt Corrado, who combined for 76 points.

“Additions like Shapiro and Corrado are so important because they weren’t considered top players heading into this season,” Hank Winnicki said. “Shapiro didn’t start last year, but as the season unfolds, you see how much talent there is on all these teams.”
