Suffolk high school football roundup for Week 2

SUFFOLK I
For the first time since 2001, Central Islip football has begun the season with two consecutive wins. Camari McDonald and Jimmy Gaston Jr.’s pressure off the edge forced an incompletion on Riverhead’s two-point conversion attempt with 58 seconds left, sealing a 13-12 home win for the Musketeers against the Blue Waves Friday in Suffolk’s Division I.
Elijah Wellington rushed for an 11-yard touchdown with 2:45 remaining, giving Central Islip a six-point lead in the fourth quarter. Gaston Jr. finished with 120 yards and a touchdown on 15 carries.
Josiah Rodney and Kavion Hobbs both rushed for touchdowns for Riverhead (0-2).
Sachem North 33, Whitman 7: Henry Sarro rushed for 132 yards and two touchdowns on 10 carries and Jake Spera rushed for 65 yards and two touchdowns on seven carries as Sachem North defeated host Whitman. Luke LaRocca completed 6 of 10 passes for 94 yards and a touchdown for Sachem North (1-1), hitting John Licata for a 20-yard score to open the game. Whitman is 1-1.
Longwood 19, Sachem East 7: Kyon Sarwari rushed for 158 yards and three touchdowns on 23 carries to lead Longwood (1-1) past host Sachem East. Travis Gibbs blocked a key field goal in the fourth quarter, which was returned 48 yards by Caleb Munoz. Sarwari capped the ensuing drive, which included a 21-yard catch by Craig Harty, with a 3-yard touchdown run to give Longwood a 12-7 lead in the fourth quarter.
Sarwari later had a 12-yard touchdown run to secure the victory. Mark Davis had an interception and Nyyir Thomas had a fumble recovery. Sachem East is 1-1.
Lindenhurst 35, Patchogue-Medford 14: Hunter DeRonde, Louis Drago and Jacob Burmeister all had an interception and Ryan Murgatroyd recovered a fumble to help lead Lindenhurst (2-0) to its second win. Murgatroyd also caught a touchdown pass from Mikey Russo, who threw two touchdowns in total, including one to Alex Burmeister.
For Patchogue-Medford (0-2), Brett Rupolo ran for one touchdown and threw another to Aidyn Modeste.
SATURDAY’S GAMES
Floyd 20, Brentwood 0: Ja’Quan Thomas rushed for 304 yards and three touchdowns on 22 carries to lead host Floyd (2-0) past Brentwood. Thomas scored a 28-yard touchdown in the first quarter and an 8-yard and 44-yard touchdowns in the fourth. Jake Rivera had 13 tackles, four tackles for loss, and three sacks. Jaylen Johnson had 11 tackles and four sacks. Brentwood is 0-2.
Ward Melville 49, Bay Shore 14: Ward Melville middle linebacker Liam Cronin opened the scoring by blocking the punt on Bay Shore’s first possession, recovering the ball and scoring a 4-yard touchdown to set the tone as Ward Melville defeated host Bay Shore. Hudson Philbrick had four passing touchdowns, including two touchdowns to Angelo Sorbera. Sorbera also had a key block to spring Joey Benedetto’s 70-yard touchdown run in the second quarter for Ward Melville (2-0). Ethan Jargo was 7 for 7 on PATs. Xavier Hector completed a 25-yard passing touchdown to Matt Boule for Bay Shore (0-2).
SUFFOLK II
Simon Blissett found Carson Ciaio for a 76-yard touchdown through the air, kick-starting Northport’s 55-21 win at Half Hollow Hills East in Suffolk’s Division II. Greyson Cabrera followed with a 28-yard interception return for a score and later added a 55-yard pick-six, as well as a 53-yard receiving touchdown from Blissett.
Blissett finished with 245 passing yards and four touchdowns, throwing 34 and 51-yard scores to Daniel Miller. Tommy Zarcone scored on a 65-yard fumble recovery for the Tigers (2-0). Daniel White scored a 3-yard rushing touchdown for Half Hollow Hills East (0-2).
Huntington 40, North Babylon 34: Jacob Guzik completed 7 of 14 passing attempts for 231 yards and two touchdowns in Huntington’s home win over North Babylon. Guzik added six rushes for 38 yards and two touchdowns. Yasir Jones had 20 carries for 148 yards and four touchdowns and Jack Kamenstein had for six catches, 202 yards and two touchdowns for Huntington (2-0). Dominic Prestano ran 23 times for 186 yards and four touchdowns for North Babylon (1-1).
Smithtown East 43, Centereach 7: Antonio Marrone completed 4 of 7 passing attempts for 114 yards and a touchdown, adding five carries for 81 yards and two more scores to lead Smithtown East to a home victory. Hunter Hughes rushed 10 times for 45 yards and a TD. Jonathan Jean caught two passes for 75 yards and a TD. Charlie Weydig had a 37-yard pick-six and finished with eight tackles. Matt Santangelo had six tackles, a sack and an INT.
David Sack had five tackles and one sack, leading a defense that recorded four interceptions and two fumble recoveries for Smithtown East (1-1). Zach Sandora caught an 8-yard TD pass from Jason Cesa for Centereach (0-2).
FRIDAY
West Babylon 23, Deer Park 20: Jahavi Reyes rushed 14 times for 65 yards and two touchdowns, adding 3 completions on 5 attempts for 76 yards and a touchdown through the air for host West Babylon. Reyes’ 7-yard rushing touchdown gave West Babylon (1-1) a 10-point lead with 10:02 remaining in the game. Reyes added 13 tackles and two pass deflections on defense. Deer Park drove the ball to West Babylon’s 32-yard line with two minutes remaining before Xavier Estevez and Jaysen Reyes recorded a sack apiece to end the game.
Anthony Kern threw a touchdown pass to Christian Myrick, Nusanti Delbridge and Jaheim McCallum for Deer Park (1-1).
SUFFOLK III
Robert DiFazio ran for 160 yards and two touchdowns on 28 carries, carrying Comsewogue past Rocky Point Friday night in Suffolk’s Division III. Nick Saladino added 15 rushes for 90 yards and a score. James Ward had five solo tackles and two sacks for Comsewogue (1-1), which scored 21 consecutive points after allowing Rocky Point’s Cristian Romero to run for a 2-yard score.
Peyton Reisinger threw a touchdown pass to Brogan Casper and rushed for a two-point conversion for Rocky Point (1-1).
West Islip 28, Westhampton 17: TJ Sonnenberg completed 9 of 13 passes for 212 yards and three touchdowns to Conor Kenefick to lead host West Islip. Kenefick finished with five receptions for 163 yards and the three touchdowns — scores of 38, 45 and 48 yards. His final touchdown of 45 yards gave West Islip a 28-7 lead in the third quarter following a two-point conversion run by Jake Kramer. The Lions (2-0) ran for 201 yards, led by Sonnenberg (57 yards), Kramer (53) and Jovan Brewster (51).
Peter Malone had two interceptions and five tackles. Matthew Marker, Will Delanoy and Jack Elko had six tackles each. Westhampton falls to 0-2.
SATURDAY'S GAMES
Eastport-South Manor 31, Harborfields 14: Joey Hershey rushed for 145 yards and three touchdowns on 17 carries for Eastport-South Manor (2-0) in its home win. Hershey also recorded eight tackles. Tommy Powers caught four passes for 37 yards and a touchdown while logging four tackles and two sacks. Nolan Douglas also totaled four tackles and two sacks. Owen Loomis went 4-for-4 on extra-point attempts and made a 39-yard field goal.
Brayden Matarese and Matthew Ferranti each rushed for 25 yards and a touchdown for Harborfields (0-2).
East Hampton/Bridgehampton/ Pierson 35, Half Hollow Hills West 10: Theo Ball threw for 190 yards and three TDs in East Hampton/Bridgehampton/Pierson’s road win. Jackson Ronick rushed for 75 yards and two touchdowns, adding another touchdown through the air. Charlie Stern had three receptions for 115 yards, and recorded six tackles on defense. Livs Kuplins had six tackles and an interception, as well as a 25-yard reception for a score for East Hampton/Bridgehampton/Pierson (1-1).
Jayden Smith blocked a punt and returned it 15 yards for a touchdown for Hills West (0-2). Hazem Nassar kicked a 31-yard field goal and added a PAT.
Amityville 30, Wyandanch 12: Jacob Billinger rumbled for 173 yards and four touchdowns on 17 carries and made eight tackles for Amityville (1-1) in its home win. Noah Robinson ran for 90 yards on eight carries and 10 solo tackles. Anari Armstrong returned a kickoff 80 yards for a touchdown.
Dom Correnthi ran for two touchdowns for Wyandanch (0-2).
Smithtown West 28, Hauppauge 7: Michael Cascione returned a punt 60 yards for a touchdown and caught a pass for another 28-yard score to help lead host Smithtown West (2-0) in Suffolk III. Nick DeVito threw two touchdown passes in the win, the first of which went to Vin Lepore. Jake Rearick scored a rushing touchdown and Thomas Maloney made all four of his extra points. For Hauppauge (1-1), Giuseppe Calabrese caught a touchdown from Nick LaChapelle.
SUFFOLK IV
With 58 seconds left, Van Johnson punched in a 1-yard rushing touchdown and ran for a two-point conversion to cap off an 11-play, 82-yard drive for Miller Place in its 34-33 home win over Glenn on Saturday in Suffolk IV. Shane Kiernan completed 23 of 38 passes for 357 yards and four touchdowns. AJ Rudolph had eight catches for 144 yards and three TDs. Brendan Cannon had eight catches for 115 yards. Drew Meyer had nine tackles, two for a loss, and one fumble recovery. Bradyn Ellis had six tackles, four for loss, for Miller Place (2-0).
Joe Competiello rushed for two touchdowns for Glenn (1-1) and both CJ Mascia and Keith King each had pick sixes.
Mount Sinai 42, Port Jefferson 7: Dontae Spadaro rushed for 84 of his team’s 240 yards and scored one TD for Mount Sinai (1-1). Alex Campanelli and Nicholas Pramataris had interceptions. Brandon Steele, Sean Kit and Ethan Arita recorded sacks. Neko Davis returned a kickoff 80 yards for a touchdown for Port Jefferson (0-2).
Bayport-Blue Point 48, Shoreham-Wading River 0: Josh Franchak and Colin Reyer ran for 190 and 152 yards, respectively, as well as three TDs for Bayport-Blue Point (2-0). The Phantoms rushed for 401 yards.
FRIDAY'S GAMES
Babylon 33, Center Moriches 7: Kai Jankow rushed for 44 yards and a touchdown on five carries and completed 4 of 4 passes for 68 yards and two touchdowns for Babylon at Center Moriches. Aidan Winter had six tackles and a 10-yard touchdown run for Babylon (2-0). Center Moriches is 0-2.
Kings Park 39, Hampton Bays 7: Aidan Barbosa rushed for 101 yards and three touchdowns, finishing with 217 all-purpose yards for host Kings Park (1-1). Brandon Shapiro completed 10 of 19 passes for 264 yards, hitting Matt Corrado for two TDs. Corrado caught four passes for 183 yards, plus an INT and a fumble recovery. Frankie Buffolino had seven tackles and an INT. Brayden Talmage caught a touchdown for Hampton Bays (0-2).
