High school roundup: Girls and boys soccer, field hockey and girls cross country
Esly Peraza scored off an assist by Giselle Reyes with just over four minutes left in the game to lead Brentwood to a 1-0 victory over Longwood in a Suffolk I girls soccer game on Tuesday. Zoey Chavez made seven saves for Brentwood (4-4-1). Makenzi Hansen made four saves for Longwood (6-3).
Sayville 1, Islip 0: Morgan Farrell scored in the first half to lead Sayville (8-1-1) over previously undefeated Islip (6-1) in Suffolk III. Brooklyn Orlando had the assist. Rylee Moran had 13 saves for Islip.
Kings Park 7, Port Jefferson 0: Nicolette Caratozzolo and Addison Kelly both scored two goals for Kings Park (5-3-2) in Suffolk III. Lea Fargnoli, Alora Catandella and Kylie Plutzer all added a goal. Josie Amtmann made 15 saves for Port Jefferson (1-8).
BOYS SOCCER
Smithtown West 3, West Babylon 2: Tony Garcia scored two goals and Ryan Giotis scored the other in the first half to lead Smithtown West (5-4-1) in Suffolk II. Collin Caridi and Sebastian Lens scored in the second half for West Babylon (2-6-1). Jack Reina had two assists and Jerry Nagosky made nine saves for Smithtown West.
Pierson 4, Smithtown Christian 2: Kai Green scored two goals for Pierson (1-6) in its Suffolk IV win. Sebastian Corson and Rys Dawson each added a goal. Emmanuel Baez and Ishmael Nieves scored for Smithtown Christian (0-9).
Northport 5, Centereach 0: Joey Smith scored three goals to lead Northport (9-0) in Suffolk II. Oliver Ko added one goal and one assist and Dylan Naughton made five saves for his fifth shutout. Thomas Zwirblis made 14 saves for Centereach (2-7).
Half Hollow Hills East 2, West Islip 2: Pavel Slivchenko and Oliver Greenberg scored first-half goals for Hills East, but Peyton Bianca and Connor Clark each added a goal for West Islip as both teams battled through double overtime to a tie in Suffolk II. Andre Cabrera made 11 saves for Hills East (4-3-2). Peyton Bianca and Connor Clark scored for West Islip (4-2-3). Michael Hazelton made eight saves.
FIELD HOCKEY
Smithtown East 6, Riverhead 1: Melissa Beach had three goals and one assist for Smithtown East (5-4) in a Suffolk I win. Brooke Simonetti added one goal and one assist. Casey Hubbard made 17 saves for Riverhead (3-5).
Bay Shore/Islip 2, Newfield 0: Abigail DeNatalie and Madalyn Gulotta scored for Bay Shore/Islip (5-4) in a Suffolk I win. Morgan Cousins made six saves for the shutout. Karlie Sitler had 17 saves for Newfield (3-5).
Whitman 3, Huntington 2: Alaina Pape had two goals and Andie Devinney made nine saves to help Whitman (7-1) win its Suffolk I match. Kate Macaluso added a goal and Jillian Kobel earned an assist. Kathleen Cocoman made 15 saves for Huntington (5-4). Norah Golden assisted on both goals for the Blue Devils.
GIRLS CROSS COUNTRY
Ward Melville 22, Connetquot 35: Elizabeth Wright, Julia Schmitz, Lauren Casey and Bella Horn all finished the 4,000 meters in 15 minutes, 20 seconds to place second through fifth, respectively, and win it for Ward Melville (3-0) in Suffolk III. Lina Muy placed eighth to secure the victory. For Connetquot (2-1), Olivia DiGaetano ran a course-record 14:55 at Stony Brook University to win the individual race.
