Newsday's annual look at the top high school boys volleyball players on Long Island, listed in alphabetical order, heading into the season. All statistics are from last season, unless otherwise noted.

Nicholas Altmann, Plainview-Old Bethpage JFK, S, Sr.

He had 343 assists, 29 kills, 89 digs, 16 blocks and 12 aces.

Jacob Aponte, Port Washington, OH, Sr.

The focal point of the Vikings’ offense, Aponte has a great swing and a strong jump serve.

Emerson Atkin, Commack, OH, Sr.

A well-rounded player, Atkin can hit from anywhere on the court and will be a main piece in Commack’s offense.

Tyler Bottcher, Eastport-South Manor, L, Sr.

He was the defensive anchor on the Sharks’ run to the Division II state title. He had 148 digs in the regular season and was named to Newsday’s All-Long Island second team.

Jack Cain, Eastport-South Manor, MB, Sr.

He had 97 kills, 30 blocks and 20 aces in the regular season and was named to Newsday’s All-Long Island second team.

Tyler Cope, Connetquot, L, Soph.

He had 208 digs and 13 aces and was named to Newsday’s All-Long Island second team.

Logan Coady, Massapequa, OH, Sr.

The reigning Newsday Nassau Player of the Year totaled 302 kills, 29 blocks and 21 aces to lead Massapequa to the Nassau Division I title.

Nick Dempsey, West Islip, OH/MB, Sr.

He had a strong offseason after posting 47 kills and 19 blocks. He is expected to have a breakout season.

Mark de Prado, Valley Stream North, OH, Sr.

He had 285 kills, 10 blocks, 179 digs and 48 aces.

James Downey, East Islip, S, Sr.

He had 705 assists, 110 digs, 26 aces, 13 kills and 12 blocks.

Andrew Dragos, Eastport-South Manor, OH, Sr.

The four-year starter is well-rounded and had 102 kills and 112 digs in the regular season.

Nicholas Eng, Roslyn, S, Jr.

He had 750 assists, 111 digs, 26 kills, 20 blocks and 13 aces.

Landon Fischer, Smithtown West, OH, Sr.

A three-year starter, he had 208 kills and 266 digs last season.

Alex Fischetti, Massapequa, OH, Jr.

A high-leaper, Fischetti pairs with Coady for a dynamic duo on the outside.

Matthew Fitzgerald, Plainview-Old Bethpage JFK, OH, Sr.

The Newsday All-Long Island first team selection had 288 kills, 17 assists, 23 blocks, 166 digs and 19 aces.

Tomer Gilady, Roslyn, OH, Sr.

He had 176 kills, 28 blocks, 150 digs, 12 aces and 12 assists to help Roslyn win the Nassau Division II title.

Cameron Giordano, Westhampton, S/RS, Sr.

The returning All-Long Island second team selection had 285 assists and 68 kills.

Zareb Gonzalez, Bay Shore, OH, Sr.

A speedy athlete with excellent leaping ability, he had 179 kills, 11 aces and nine blocks.

Brenden Grange, Ward Melville, S/OPP, Sr.

The St. Joseph’s (Patchogue) commit had 13 aces as a serving specialist. He will become Ward Melville’s primary setter.

Niall Haughney, Bay Shore, MB, Sr.

At 6-9, Haughney is a nightmare in the middle for opposing teams. He had 146 kills, 37 blocks and was named to Newsday’s All-Long Island second team.

Alek Ignjatovic, Calhoun, MB, Sr.

He had 264 kills, 58 blocks and 53 aces.

Andrew Jennette, Oyster Bay, OH, Sr.

The 6-8 lefty had 362 kills, 65 aces, 31 blocks, 38 digs and 15 assists in Oyster Bay’s first year with a varsity program.

Joseph Kim, Roslyn, OH, Jr.

He had 225 kills, 18 blocks, 152 digs, 21 aces and nine assists and was named to Newsday’s All-Long Island second team.

Bryan Kuhl, Sachem North, S/L, Jr.

He had 383 assists, 109 digs and 17 aces and was selected to Newsday’s All-Long Island second team.

Andrew Lee, Great Neck South, OPP, Sr.

The 6-4 hitter had 157 kills, 48 blocks and 31 digs. He will have an even larger role this season.

Landon Luttrell, Plainview-Old Bethpage JFK, OH, Jr.

He had 300 kills and 20 aces at Hicksville last season. He pairs with Fitzgerald for a dynamic attack.

Stephen Lyu, Jericho, MB, Jr.

He had 77 kills and 58 blocks. He provides a powerful swing in the middle.

Ben Morreale, Sachem North, OH, Jr.

He will move from setter to outside hitter after posting 245 assists, 28 digs and eight aces.

Teague Nolan, East Islip, Sr., OH

The Newsday All-Long Island second team selection had 233 kills, 147 digs, 15 aces, 14 blocks and eight assists.

Andre Ocava, Valley Stream Central, L, Jr.

He had 248 digs, 32 assists, 30 aces and four kills.

Colin O’Connor, Connetquot, OH, Sr.

He had 161 kills, 171 digs and 11 aces.

Michael Pennisi, Smithtown East, OH, Jr.

The 6-2 junior emerged as the Bulls’ top attacker last year. He had 121 kills and 67 digs.

John Pericolosi, South Side, S/RS, Sr.

The 6-3 four-year starter had 287 kills and 44 aces.

Khalid Rashid, Herricks, MB, Jr.

The 6-3 junior had 103 kills and 40 blocks.

Arkaidiy Rivkin, Syosset, OH, Sr.

At 6-7, Rivkin’s length and athleticism make him one of the top hitters on Long Island.

Leo Rohman, Levittown District, OH, Sr.

He had 465 kills and 67 aces and was named to Newsday’s All-Long Island second team.

Mailo Rozas Catalan, Lawrence, S, Sr.

He had 666 assists, 45 aces, 38 kills and 52 digs to lead Lawrence to the Nassau Division II final.

Avery Sarmiento, Levittown District, S, Soph.

He had a standout freshman season with 673 assists and 52 aces.

Teagan Savas, Sachem North, OH, Jr.

Savas had 72 kills, 72 digs, 12 aces and 11 blocks. He will become the focal point of Sachem North’s offense.

Eddie Shields, Ward Melville, M/OPP, Sr.

He is 6-5 with outstanding athleticism. He had 35 kills, 38 blocks and 19 aces to help the Patriots to a second straight Division I Long Island title.

Joe Smith, Patchogue-Medford, L, Sr.

He had 143 digs and 13 aces.

Ryan Sguigna, Connetquot, OH, Jr.

He had 128 kills, 13 aces and 71 digs.

Jack Stanley, Massapequa, MB, Sr.

At 6-6, Stanley is a major presence at the net. He brings explosiveness in the middle of Massapequa’s fast offense.

Zenoven Stewart, Whitman, RS, Jr.

He had 174 kills, 16 blocks, 69 digs and won the Suffolk Rookie of the Year award.

Zach Thomas, West Islip, OH, Sr.

He had 347 kills, 12 blocks, 155 digs and 40 aces to earn Newsday All-Long Island first team honors.

Elijah Tolley, Lawrence, OH, Sr.

He had 261 kills, 43 digs, 26 aces and 20 blocks.

Aaron Torres, East Hampton, OH, Jr.

He is expected to make a jump after posting 176 kills, 104 digs and 11 aces.

Max Tragna, Smithtown West, L, Sr.

He had 186 digs and is a strong passer.

Ian Yegidis, Calhoun, L, Jr.

He had 276 digs and 12 aces.

Peter Zhang, Great Neck South, S/L/OPP, Sr.

A jack-of-all-trades, Zhang had 499 assists, 104 kills, 168 digs, 53 blocks and 23 aces. He was selected to Newsday’s All-Long Island second team.
