A Holtsville man was charged Thursday in connection with an August hit and run crash that killed a pedestrian in Manorville.

Campbell Smith, 58, of Holtsville, was charged with leaving the scene of an incident with a fatality. He will be held overnight and be arraigned at First District Court in Central Islip Friday.

Suffolk police had identified the pedestrian killed by a hit-and-run driver in Manorville on Aug. 31 as Michael Barnhardt, 54.

Barnhardt, a Manorville resident, was crossing County Route 111 north of Chapman Boulevard about 8:30 p.m. when he was struck by a vehicle that fled north, police said in a news release. 

He was taken to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead, police said.
