A fire Sunday morning caused heavy damage to an East Meadow home but resulted in no injuries, according to the Nassau County fire marshal’s office.
The East Meadow Fire Department responded to a call for a fire on Merrick Avenue shortly after 10 a.m. Sunday. All residents of the building — three adults, a dog and a cat — were able to evacuate, according to Andrew Schmitt, Nassau's assistant chief fire marshal. About 40 firefighters from North Bellmore, Uniondale and North Merrick as well as East Meadow brought the fire under control within 45 minutes, the statement said.
The fire marshal’s office and Nassau County police arson squad are investigating the cause of the fire.
