A Brooklyn man was killed on Thursday and another motorist was injured in a crash on the Northern State Parkway in Smithtown, the New York State Police said in a statement.
Carl Salmon, 54, was eastbound west of Veterans Memorial Highway in a 2002 Infiniti i35 when he lost control of the car while attempting to change lanes. The Infiniti struck the rear passenger side of a 2024 Subaru Crosstrek and exited the roadway, striking a tree before it stopped in the center median, according to the state police.
Salmon was transported to St. Catherine of Siena Hospital in Smithtown, where he was pronounced dead.
The collision also caused the Subaru Crosstrek to exit the roadway, overturn and come to rest in the center median, police said. The operator was transported to Good Samaritan University Hospital in West Islip, treated for minor injuries, and released.
