Suffolk police are investigating a car crash that killed a pedestrian in Middle Island on Friday night.

Robert Trombly, 56, was crossing Middle Country Road at the intersection of Tudor Lane when the driver of 2021 Hyundai Sonata ran into him as it was traveling westbound, Suffolk police said in a news release.

Trombly, of Middle Island, was taken to a hospital in Patchogue where he was pronounced dead, the release said. Suffolk County police did not immediately provide information about whether he was in a crosswalk when he was struck.

The 19-year-old woman driving the Hyundai was not injured. A police spokesperson said the Coram woman was not ticketed or charged in the crash. Police impounded the vehicle for a safety check.

Detectives with the department's Seventh Squad are investigating the crash and are asking anyone with information to contact the agency at 631-852-8752.
