Luis Canales struck, killed by car in Farmingville, police say

A Medford woman fatally struck a 71-year-old man crossing the road in Farmingville on Wednesday, Suffolk County police said.
Luis Canales, 71, who lived in Farmingville, was crossing Horseblock Road west of N. Ocean Avenue just before 4 p.m. when he was hit by a 2020 Toyota heading east, authorities said.
Canales was taken to Stony Brook University Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
The driver of the car, Nicole Tumilowicz, 48, remained at the scene and has not been charged.
Police impounded her vehicle for a safety check, they said.
