A man riding a motorcycle Tuesday in Riverhead was killed in a crash involving two other vehicles, according to the Riverhead Town Police Department.
About 2:22 p.m., a 2022 Kenworth commercial truck stopped at a red light on Center Drive just south of West Main Street and began driving north when it collided with both a 2022 Honda motorcycle and a 2017 Honda sedan, the police department said in a news release.
The motorcycle rider, Aiden J. Lomelle, 18, of Whitestone, Queens, was transported to Peconic Bay Medical Center in Riverhead, where he died of his injuries, police said.
A preliminary investigation indicated "that the motorcycle changed lanes and stopped in close proximity to the front of the truck shortly before the traffic light turned green and the truck began moving north," police said in the release. The sedan "had been attempting to follow behind the motorcycle" and became involved in the collision.
Neither the driver of the truck nor the sedan were injured.
The crash does not appear criminal, Riverhead police said.
The Riverhead Police Detective Squad, the New York State Police Accident Reconstruction Team and the New York State Police Motor Carrier Unit are investigating, according to the news release.
Anyone with information about the crash is asked to call the Riverhead Town Police Department at 631-727-4500 Ext. 312.
