Suffolk County police will be auctioning more than 100 cars and motorcycles in Westhampton on Saturday.

Suffolk County police will be selling off about 100 vehicles and motorcycles, starting at $500, during an auction Saturday in Westhampton.

The vehicles range from one to 30 years old and include sedans, bikes and SUVs made by Mercedes, Jaguar, BMW, Jeep and Kawasaki. All the vehicles were impounded by police and seized as asset forfeitures or proceeds of a crime.

Bidding will begin at 9 a.m. Saturday at the Suffolk police impound lot at 100 Old Country Rd. in Westhampton. The auction will go on, rain or shine.

Potential buyers surveyed vehicles during a preview period at the impound yard Friday between 9 a.m. and 4 p.m. Vehicles will also be open to preview at 8 a.m. Saturday before the auction.

Mauricio Garcia of Riverhead was looking over the vehicles Friday, hoping to find a Toyota pickup. “I’m looking for this kind of vehicle, very strong and stable,” Garcia said.

Aldo Hernandez, 33, of Mastic, said he had gone to auctions several times and purchased vehicles. He said he checked records for any accident history and damage before buying a vehicle.

“We’re looking for cars taken by the sheriff and now are for sale, hopefully at a lower price,” Hernandez said. ”I’m looking for a sports cars, not crashed and looking pretty good.”

All prospective bidders must register for the auction with a valid ID that must be shown at the time of payment. Buyers must be 18 or older. Businesses must show a state tax ID number at registration.

All vehicles will be sold in as-is condition and no photos are permitted, because the vehicles are considered evidence, police said.

Full payment must be made on-site to collect vehicles for bids up to $2,000. Bids over $2,000 require a nonrefundable deposit of $2,000 plus 25% of the remaining balance owed, police said.

According to police, no titles will be given, but buyers will be given a bill of sale. The new owners must tow vehicles from the premises within two hours of the auction ending or face impound fees. Any vehicles purchased but abandoned after 40 days will incur a $1,000 abandonment fee for the bidders and the vehicles will be impounded by police.
