Long Island weather: Cloudy Friday ushers in gorgeous September-like weather for holiday weekend, next week

Friday's overcast conditions, with occasional showers in some areas, will be ushering in a glorious Labor Day weekend, forecasters said.
After a cool overnight in the mid to upper 50s, Saturday should be clear and sunny with highs in the mid 70s, ending with another chilly evening in the high 50s, the National Weather Service said. Sunday will be slightly warmer, but also full of sunshine and blue skies and a low of about 60 degrees.
Similar weather is forecast for Monday, Labor Day, through Wednesday. Chance of showers are predicted for Thursday and Friday, with temperatures staying in the mid 70s, the weather service said.
Next week's cooler weather is similar to that of mid-September, forecasters said.
Nassau County planned increased patrols for the holiday weekend of roads and waterways to identify and arrest drivers and boat operators under the influence of drugs or alcohol, according to a news release.
Gov. Kathy Hochul announced Thursday that temporary lane closures for road and bridge construction projects on New York State highways will be suspended from 6 a.m. Friday to 6 a.m. Tuesday in anticipation of Labor Day weekend travel.
