Long Island forecast: Rain after midnight Sunday should end by the morning

Long Island will experience light rain after midnight and into early Sunday morning, according to the National Weather Service.
"By the time we get to early morning hours, it's winding down," meteorologist Bill Goodman said. "There might still be a stray shower or two across eastern Suffolk to start the day, and then Sunday looks dry."
The precipitation will come after clouds blanket much of the region on Saturday. Temperatures will peak in the upper 70s to low 80s on Saturday and Sunday, with the sun peeking out by Sunday afternoon, Goodman said.
Hurricane Humberto, a Category 4 hurricane swirling over the Atlantic Ocean, should have only an "indirect" impact on Long Island, Goodman said, with "big waves, high surf along the coast" from Tuesday through Thursday. There will also be gusty, offshore winds, he said.
"If you're at the beach, waves are going to be big," Goodman said. "If you're a surfer, you probably love it. It's not for the average person to be going in the water, pretty dangerous conditions."
Goodman does not expect a second developing tropical depression in the Atlantic, likely to become Tropical Storm Imelda, to affect the region.
