After a week of uncomfortable heat and humidity, Long Islanders should get a second straight day of pleasant summer weather Sunday.

On Saturday, with the humidity level at a comfortable 34%, the temperature topped out at 80 degrees just before 3 p.m. in Islip, but was in the 70s most of the day.

The National Weather Service said Saturday evening that Sunday will be sunny with a high temperature of about 83 degrees. A light 5 to 8 mph wind is expected to shift to come out of the southeast in the afternoon.

Sunday night should be mostly clear with a low temperature of about 64 degrees.

"We’ve got high pressure pretty much in control, at least through the middle of the week. That means no rain," Bryan Ramsey, a meteorologist with the weather service in Upton, said. "I know it’s been pretty wet recently, but we will have quite the dry stretch coming up."

Monday will be a bit warmer with a high of about 87 degrees under sunny skies, according to the weather service.

The forecast for the rest of the workweek calls for high temperatures in the low to mid-80s. No rain is expected.
