East Quogue: Quiet area with beachfront homes draws buyers

THE SCOOP In search of a quiet and unassuming beach community? East Quogue might be the one.
"East Quogue is unique," said Lauren Spiegel, a real estate agent for Douglas Elliman and lifelong resident of the community. "It's off the beaten path, but it's a beach community."
The main road — Dune Road — runs through many communities along the southern end of the barrier island, tying them together. Public beaches in East Quogue include Hot Dog Beach and Dolphin Beach, but residents have access to all town beaches, including Southampton.

Spiegel said the small-town vibe is felt when grabbing a bagel before heading to the beach and at the farm stands along the roads — meeting at Dockers Marina and Restaurant for food, drinks, and music and to gawk at the sunsets.
"It's quiet, and you get a lot for your money," she said.
The community's park, East Quogue Village Green, is the first American Green Zone Alliance park on the East Coast, meaning there are zero emissions from maintenance work, and low noise pollution.

Like most Long Island communities, East Quogue was bought from Native Americans by a white settler, John Ogden, and remained farmland until 1844, when railroad service to Riverhead brought summer visitors who stayed in boardinghouses along the roads.
Home prices can run from a rare $339,000 for a one-bedroom, one-bathroom cottage to nearly $10 million for an oceanfront mansion. Annual rentals are scarce, with most being summer rentals in the $5,000 to $20,000 range.
