Behind a white house with muted green shutters, herons, egrets and waterfowl populate a pond off of Wading River. Just a few houses overlook the body of water, said Douglas Elliman agent Andrea Parks.

"It's really a very beautiful ecological environment, as well," Parks said.

The four-bed, 2½-bath home on a 0.8-acre parcel is listed for $979,000. Taxes on the Hill Street property, which falls within the Shoreham-Wading River Central School District, total $17,271.

The home has an oil heating system and central air conditioning.

The house is 2,674 square feet.

Among interior details of the 2,674-square-foot space are wooden banisters and wide plank flooring, two fireplaces and vaulted ceilings, according to Parks. A two-car garage has green doors that match the shutters.

Newsday could not confirm the build year of the home or its history as of the time of publication, but Parks said the property had "strong roots."

"It's got to be a very unique buyer, because they want to obviously have the history and the strong roots, as well as it's got all the modern conveniences," Parks said.
