Cowboys owner Jerry Jones says he contacted the Jets about trading for Micah Parsons before sending the three-time All-Pro edge rusher to the Packers.

Jones wanted Quinnen Williams and multiple first-round picks in return. Appearing on ESPN radio with Gary Myers on Saturday, he said the Jets told him they “didn’t have the resources to entertain conversations.”

The Jets had no comment on Jones’ remarks.

According to Jones, he had just that one conversation with the Jets. He never mentioned Williams by name Saturday. Myers presented a scenario in which he asked for Williams to help the Cowboys’ run defense along with two No. 1 picks. Jones said Myers was going down the right path.

Jones said he made it known that he wanted a “dominant” interior lineman in return or there would be no need to continue any talks. Williams, a three-time Pro Bowler, is arguably the Jets’ best defensive player and the anchor of their defensive line.

“A prerequisite to the entire trade was that we had to have right now a really frankly significant dominant inside defensive player,” Jones said. “That was a prerequisite. You didn’t get in the mentality of my trading if you didn’t have that coming through the door.”

The Cowboys ended up sending Parsons to Green Bay for defensive tackle Kenny Clark and No. 1 picks in 2026 and 2027.
